Aiguablava

The Aiguablava beach or cove is translated as "blue waters" in English and just as its name indicates it´s a small beach with crystalline waters. Its shallow waters and golden sand make it one of the most famous beaches on the Costa Brava. Located on the Begur coastline it boasts spectacular views of the bay and the cape of Begur.

The beach can be accessed by road or sea and besides sunbathing you can try snorkelling, diving or kayaking. On the beach itself there is a dive centre where you can rent equipment or kayaks by the hour. There are also a couple of restaurans where you can buy lunch or drinks.

Although the beach doesn´t attract mass tourism, in July and August it can get quite busy so we recommend that you go early to get a good spot on the sand.

Beaches and coves in Begur
At the heart of Costa Brava

The Begur coast enjoys a shoreline of unparalleled beauty, whose cliffs and pines, the crystal waters of its hidden coves and its abrupt coastline, make this area one of the most characteristic of the Costa Brava.

Begur has eight coves and beaches, located to the north, east and south of the town, with different characters and completely different kinds of natural beauty. The first beach from the north is Platja del Racó, found near the neighboring town of Pals. It is the widest beach of Begur and offers a beautiful view of the Medes Islands.

Following the coast south-west is the Illa Roja beach, internationally renowned nudist beach. This beautiful beach, one of the most emblematic begur coasts, is characterized by a chaired by a reddish rocky islet that gives its name to the cove.

Also to the north lies the village of Sa Riera beach, one of the Begur largest and nearest town with an excellent location, then the right is the sheltered cove port from Port d'es Pi, and the left, the Cala del Rei. Sa Riera, which gets its name from a river that divides the beach into two halves, retains its traditional character and also offers various sports activities and tourism services.

Cala Aiguafreda:

Located in the east cove of Aiguafreda small cove sheltered by the Puig Rodó hill. There are a small pier for boats and a pleasant picnic area. The next cove east also, Sa Tuna is characteristic for its sheltered location, access and tortuous. This beach offers a nice bath in clean and transparent waters, and nice walks along the coastal path. In the southern coast of Begur Platja Fonda are the unique, located at the foot of the majestic Cape of Begur. This natural hide, with thick sand and dark, has managed to remain untouched and preserved a primitive purity rarely found in other parts of the Costa Brava.

Also located in the south, the coves of Fornells, where according to tradition, this coast was baptized, a hundred years ago, with the familiar name of "Costa Brava". The coastal trail serves as a bridge to reach all the small creeks that form the core of Fornells: cove n'Estasia, Port des Orats, Malaret and the Port Esclanyà cove. These coves are shared characteristic of the sand is not fine, but you can sunbathe in peace, and water is very clear.

The last beach belonging to Begur, south of Fornells, is the welcoming Aiguablava, beach, characteristic for its crystalline waters and shallow, and its fine sand and clearly.

Begur

Begur is one of the most charming villages on the Costa Brava, located in the heart of the Empordà, just 2 hours from Barcelona airport and 1 hour from Girona airport and the French border. This town combines a rich historical past with beautiful Mediterranean landscapes and the best beaches and coves of the Costa Brava.

The center of Begur is a pedestrian area full of life both day and night. It is perfect for strolling, shopping, having a drink, and enjoying Empordà cuisine. Throughout the year, various cultural and gastronomic festivities are held with the participation of both locals and visitors.

Among Begur's main attractions are the "Indianos" houses, a reminder of its historical connection with Havana; the impressive panoramic views from the Medieval Castle viewpoint; the Camins de Ronda, trails that connect different coves; the iconic fishermen's houses by the sea; and, of course, the crystal-clear water beaches, each with unique characteristics. Notably, Aiguablava stands out as one of the most paradisiacal beaches on the entire Costa Brava.

Coves and Beaches in the Costa Brava

The coves and beaches in the Costa Brava are some of the most spectacular Spain has to offer. Situated in the north-east of Spain overlooking the Mediterranean sea the Costa Brava has a mixture of long sandy beaches or smaller coves and bays with a backdrop of mountain villages. In the majority of the medium and larger beaches you´ll find small restaurants where you can taste the local food while enjoying sea views.

Many of its beaches have been authorised with the Blue Flag Award for the quality of the water, the cleanliness of the beach and the number of lifeguards present, the Aigua blava beach being one of these.

Coves a few minutes walk from the hotel
The best coves and beaches of Begur

Cala d'en Maleret is a small cove facing south, in a sheltered location surrounded by rocks. You can reach it comfortably by foot, as is located a few minutes walk from the hotel. Usually it is not crowded because you can only reach it through the coastal path, or directly from the hotel. The fine golden sand and its crystal and calming water allows to have a nice bath and diving, with great views over the bay of Aiguablava.

To the north the coastal path goes to other small coves very close to the hotel, as the Port des Orats, narrow, with coarse-grain sand, and the Port d'Esclanyà, wider and with a rocky sea bed, both on the beach area and in the water. Following the path you can reach the Platja Fonda, a wild beach, hidden between rocky walls and pines, thick and dark sand, located at the foot of the majestic Cape of Begur; the unavailability of services makes it particularly quiet, with primitive purity.
